Standing Signs
A standing sign is a freestanding sign on a weighted base or feet, so it needs no fixings and can be positioned wherever you need it. They're also called pedestal signs, forecourt signs, sidewalk signs, or pavement signs.
This is our tall, upright format: signs that stand at head height or above, so they're visible down the street and over a queue. They suit entrances, forecourts, lobbies, markets and events. For a lower, wider sign read up close by passing foot traffic, see our A-frame signs.
Because nothing fixes to a wall or floor, standing signs suit leased premises, footpath trading where signage comes in each night, and any business that reconfigures its space. Every sign is made from powder-coated aluminum, so it won't rust — including in coastal locations.
The range
Large Standing Rectangle Sign — 41.9″ (106.3 cm) tall with an 11″ × 33.5″ (28 × 85 cm) face, weighing 30.9 lbs (14 kg). The hollow base fills with water for extra ballast, making it the most stable sign in the range.
Large Standing Curve Sign — 44.9″ (114 cm) tall with a curved 11″ × 37.4″ (28 × 95 cm) face. Also has a water-fillable base.
Standing Round Sign — a round face on a pedestal base, in two sizes: 40″ (102 cm) tall with a 9.8″ (25 cm) face, or 45.7″ (116 cm) with a 15.7″ (40 cm) face.
Swing Sign — a panel that hangs and swings between two uprights, catching the eye through movement. Assembles at 63″ (160 cm) or 31.1″ (79 cm), with a 20″ × 26″ (51 × 66 cm) face, and includes a sandbag.
Letter Swing Sign — the same swinging panel with rails and letters, so you can change your message daily.
Tall Poster Sidewalk Sign — takes a printed A1 poster behind clear acrylic, double-sided, at 63″ (160 cm) tall. Includes a sandbag, and the feet remove with an Allen key for transport.
Poster Sidewalk Sign — the same A1 system at 39″ (99 cm), for a lower profile.
Standing Sign Holder — holds an A4 print between two clear acrylic sheets, double-sided, at 45.3″ (115 cm) tall and 6.8 lbs (3.1 kg). For menus and wayfinding you print yourself.
Menu Stand — holds an A3 menu behind an acrylic cover, at 45.5″ (115.5 cm) tall on a 15.8″ (40 cm) round base, weighing 15.6 lbs (7.1 kg).
Rounded Sidewalk Sign — a single rigid panel with an arched top, double-sided, at 30.7″ (78 cm) tall — the lowest sign in the range.
Common questions
Which standing sign should I choose?
It depends what you're displaying. For a permanent signwritten message, the Large Standing Rectangle or Curve Signs give you a tall panel and the most stability. For a printed menu or poster you change often, the Poster Sidewalk Signs take A1, the Menu Stand takes A3, and the Standing Sign Holder takes A4. For changeable letters, the Letter Swing Sign. And for movement that draws the eye, the Swing Sign.
Do standing signs need to be fixed down?
No. They're all freestanding — no screws, no drilling, nothing permanent. That makes them suited to leased premises and to businesses that move their signage regularly.
How do they stay upright in wind?
It varies by sign. The Large Standing Rectangle and Curve Signs have hollow bases you fill with water, so they weigh themselves down without separate ballast. The Swing Sign, Letter Swing Sign and both Poster Sidewalk Signs include a sandbag. In very exposed or coastal locations, or in heavy weather, we'd recommend bringing any freestanding sign inside.
Can they be used indoors?
Yes. Because they're freestanding and need no fixings, they work equally well in a lobby, gallery, studio or event space. The printed-insert signs in particular suit indoor wayfinding and menus.
Are they weatherproof?
The aluminum won't rust, including in coastal conditions. Signs that hold a printed paper insert aren't fully weatherproof with paper in them — for wet conditions, print on coreflute or a rigid board instead, or bring the sign inside.
Do they arrive branded?
No — our signs are supplied as blanks. A local signwriter can apply a vinyl decal to each face. If you'd like advice on getting yours branded, get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.
Are they double-sided?
Yes — every sign in the range shows from both directions, so your message reads to people approaching either way. If you're having a sign branded, you'll need a decal for each side.
